Hello my fellow cohorts,
The following are my responses to this week's blog questions.
1.
Complete
the Meeting Aesclepius mp3 (located in the Doc Sharing area). Describe your
meditative practices for the week and discuss the experience. Explain how
mindfulness or meditation has fostered an increase in your psychological or
spiritual wellness. How can you continue to apply these practices in your life
to foster greater health and wellness?
Unfortunately,
I did not have a lot of time or will to meditate this week. I did, however, listen to the mp3 – Meeting Aesclepius. Once again, it was a bit difficult to listen
to the man’s voice because of his accent.
Once the meditation started it had a great message and this time, I was
able to relax while listening to it.
Even though I did not get a chance to meditate this week, I have found
it to be helpful. It has made me more
relaxed and focused. I find that, for
me, it is better to meditate at night to relieve my day’s stress. If I can become relaxed and more focused, I
will be able to help others achieve similar goals along with other goals they
may have set their sights on.
2.
Describe
the saying: "One cannot lead another where one has not gone himself"
(p.477). How does this apply to the
health and wellness professional? Do you have an obligation to your clients to
be developing your health psychologically, physically, and spiritually? Why or
why not? How can you implement psychological and spiritual growth in your
personal life?
The quote “One cannot lead another where one has not gone himself. (p. 477) is actually quite profound. This is basically saying that you cannot teach people what you haven’t learned. Just as you cannot help people to increase their mental, spiritual and physical health unless you have taken steps to improve your health in those three areas. I truly believe that if you don’t practice what you preach, it does not make you credible. You have to walk in those shoes before you teach people how to walk in them. If you haven’t experienced it, you will not be able to have educated responses to issues that may arise. Through this course and other courses that I have taken, I feel that I, not only have a better understanding of integral health and how I can use the information that I have obtained prior to helping others.
Jean,
ReplyDeleteLife does get in the way at times with school, work, fitness, and family its amazing we have time to reflect each week. I know you have the will power has your efforts in the gym show. So I’d say your walking the walk. When others see this they will listen more closely to what you have to say. They still may not practice what your telling them but at least they will listen.
My challenge to you is to continue to meditate or meet your inner healer. I think you’ll benefit greatly your busy mind needs time to unwind.
I think the annoying voice we hear at the intro of the Meeting Aesclepius is the books author Dacher oh well it doesn’t last to long then we get better sounds. Keep up the great work and I hope you didn’t eat to much Halloween candy....Jeff
Jean,
ReplyDeleteThe man's accent threw me too however I found once I listened closer I could look past it as my meditative state grew deeper. I have the opposite experience with meditation. I wake up full of more energy in the morning once I start bustling around. I find that if I meditate in the morning I stay more grounded through the day and have a easier time dealing with adversity that may come my why.
In regards to knowing something and practicing before you preach it. It seems it should go without saying. You have to follow before you lead and truly understand a concept before you can profess to others you know it. Otherwise the instruction is kind of fraudulent. A way of false advertisement.
Thanks for you thoughts. I believe you are right on point.

Jean,
ReplyDeleteThe accident bugged me a bit too, however once the actual audio began I was able to focus much better. I find it helpful to meditate at night too as it really helps me release the stress caused by work and normal day to day activities. I want to start meditating in the morning before work to see how it effects my day. I'm hoping that I will find myself less frazzled and more calm. And I completely agree with you that the teacher must have surpassed the challenges in which they are teaching. If the teacher has not traveled the path less taken, then it would be hard to advise that concept to others.
